Sangha Day, March 1, 2009

Event:

Day retreat. Kathryn, our board president, says: The Board invites you, and all Sangha members, to a daylong retreat to clarify our sangha’s purpose and guiding principles…. The day will include periods of silent meditation as well as dialogue.. . . This retreat will continue the work that Sangha members initiated almost two years ago with the World Cafe dialogue and which was brought into renewed focus in a discussion that Board members had with Taraniya in November. In that conversation we were inspired by our reflection that the Sangha helps us to integrate dharma into everyday life, to live life through a dharma lens. This is different from our current mission statement. Taraniya suggested that we guide our sangha’s dharma practice in a way that pays homage to what it is and what it has been. She sees that our sangha has a good foundation with structure and strong programs and that the revisioning process is bubbling up through a natural maturing process not because anything is broken. She sees us working to strike a balance between providing instructions on the nuts and bolts of the Dharma with deeper exploration and investigation into these instructions. That is, to come at the teachings from different angles to help integrate them into daily life. I am looking forward to this opportunity to work together as a community to clarify our Sangha’s purpose and guiding principles. We will provide all participants with logistical details and an agenda by February 22.
